Tasting Notes:  This was the comeback year for grapes! Fantastic ripening weather and an abundance of fruit equaled great quality for this vintage. A beautiful beginning, luscious middle, and resonating finish is the story of this Zin. The briary raspberry and jammy black fruit are thick and juicy, coating the palate in layers. With a hint of sweet toasted caramel and savory tannins, firm for aging yet rounded for sipping now.

2009 A. RAFANELLI TERRACE SELECT

DRY CREEK VALLEY

Tasting Notes:   The best vines are hand selected each year from the terraced hillside vineyard just south of the winery. The grapes are hand picked, carefully sorted, and then fermented for an extended period of time in a small open top tank with manual punch downs every four hours. After fermentation and a light press, the wine is placed in new French oak barrels for three years.

The growing season showed extremes from heat to cold and from rain to sun. Throughout it all, the toughness of this grapes comes through. In a class all its own, once the cork is pulled, this wine is impossible to stop drinking. Big bodied, yet plush and velvety, the fruit keeps evolving while the complexity of depth and flavors capture your attention. Alluding to chocolate covered cherries, the allspice and vanilla bean marry well and the intensely fulfilling flavors linger on as the polished tannins gracefully finish. It is hard to hide this one for another decade!
